Here's a fun one. Supposedly Bing Crosby sued Warner Brothers because this cartoon depicted him in a negative light. I reckon that's because when the spider attacks, he's exposed as a coward. My favorite part is the song by the Andrews Sisters bugs, who are apparently not voiced by the real Andrews Sisters.

Ah, Bing. Has he lived down his son's memoir about him? I hope so because his voice was splendid.
ReplyDeleteShucks, I never heard the dirt. Just as well. What went on between him and sonny seems nobody's business.
ReplyDeleteWell, no...he was an abusive father, though a step back from the utter bastardy of the likes of Miles Davis.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't have any more to do with his art than does his suit, if there was, against WB (or Davis's insanity did with his music per se), but the kind of thing that others might've valuably stepped in and attempted to correct.
He's a native Tacoman and there's a memorial section in the rose gardens at Point Defiance.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence on this cartoons channels I honestly like song and find the storyline a little out there, but I guess it could be do well.

Wonder if the "Andrews Sisters" bugs singers were identified in studio contracts (or the Crosby impersonator)...also amusing, those four-legged flies and six-legged spiders you've heard so much about...
ReplyDeleteThis is a really exciting cartoon. I'm generally averse to watching old cartoons as the poor quality animation and silly storylines are not my thing. But be that as it may, I will say that anything with the word BINGO in it is something near and dear to my heart. Go Bingo! I'm a big fan of the game and of cartoons. And this was a great way to get a glimpse into fun-filled entertainment from another time. Get your BINGO game on - that's the only way I know how...
