Forgotten Stories: "A Slug for Cleopatra" - a complete DAFFY DILL mystery by Richard Sale

Here's the third in our all-too-infrequent visits with Richard Sale's witty but hardboiled reporter, Daffy Dill. This one, from the March 30, 1935 Detective Fiction Weekly, is early in Daffy's career. The first story I'm aware of, "The Fifty Grand Brain," appeared Nov. 3, 1934, and there were at least 56 more over the next nine years. I posted "A Dirge for Pagliaccio" HERE and "Death on High Iron" HERE. Check 'em out. They're great!

This sort of thing will read even better once you succumb to an iPad, Rick.

"Who laid this egg on my skull? A Rhode Island Red?"

Aw man, you can't find dialogue like that today for love or money.

C'mon Altus Press, bring us a nice fat collection of Daffy Dill stories. I promise I'll buy it.

Cracking screwball dialog from Richard Sale. I really enjoy these stories and wish they would be collected.

I have about half the stories, but I want them ALL.

Anon is right...nobody writes dialogue like this anymore.

I have almost all of the stories, and have already asked Matt Moring of Altus Press a while back about reprinting the series. No answer so far. Look for my article about the Daffy Dill series published in the 2013 PULPSTER handed out at Pulpfest. You may find a copy on Ebay for sale.

Hey Monte - I'd be honored to reprint that article here on the Almanack. What say you?

P.S. Another Daffy story coming soon. Next week, though, we'll have a visit from Norbert Davis.

Sorry to be so long in getting back to you. It would be okay with me for you to post the Daffy Dill article. What is your email address? Can you send it to my email address? I lost many of my email address book addresses recently when my computer went down, and yours was one of them. I now have a new Windows 7 computer to use.
