Okay, I knew that Black Mask great Raoul Whitfield also wrote aviation fiction, and juvenile adventure novels, but I never expected to find him in a comic book like Calling All Girls. But here he is, in the September 1943 issue, as provided to comicbookplus by movielover.
What's rickrack?
ReplyDeleteA secret female thing, I reckon.
ReplyDeleteThe Parents Magazine comic books featured many writers not normally found in comics.
ReplyDeleteOne such was Hal Goodwin fresh from the Pacific as a U.S. Marine journalist. They serialized his prose manuscript "The Feathered Cape" about a white kid living among the native Hawaiians before, 1800, IIRC.
Goodwin soon started writing the Rick Brant -Electronic/Science Adventures as John Blaine. Those books still have their own fandom.
Many scans of the Parents Comic books can be found at both Comic Books+ and the Digital Comic Museum.
Never read the Rick Brant books. I was a Tom Swift guy.
ReplyDeleteThe only other writers I recognized in Parents books were Theodore Sturgeon (once) and Carolyn Keene.
