The first seven comprised Tros of Samothrace; the remaining four, The Purple Pirate. This makes it much easier to take a break from Tros and come back to it later. (Tros does make an additional appearance in Mundy's Queen Cleopatra, which was published between the first seven and last four stories.)Jerry Housenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4705940625481143611.post-76731472612917117762010-10-15T11:31:42.476-07:002010-10-15T11:31:42.476-07:00I'm still smiling at the "10 cents" ...I'm still smiling at the "10 cents" price on the cover. It's amazing to think you used to be able to buy a magazine or a cup of coffee or even (in my own youth), 10 pieces of candy for 10 cents. And now, $3 is considered inexpensive for a copy! Although like you, I'm grateful Adventure House is making these available.BV Lawsonhttp://inreferencetomurder.typepad.com/my_weblog/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4705940625481143611.post-5424121257286120992010-10-15T10:21:58.909-07:002010-10-15T10:21:58.909-07:00Aside from coming out of the Yellow Peril traditio...Aside from coming out of the Yellow Peril tradition, I really didn't notice any overt racism in this story. Seemed like Wu was just a thoroughly evil guy who happened to be Chinese.

Yeah, I FFB'd the first volume of Tros sometime back. The story is extremely episodic, so it lends itself well to taking long breaks. And just how racist is this stuff? I must admit, I've barely looked at Fu Manchu, much less the imitators...the caricatures in the McGoohan SECRET AGENT series were dire enough, to say nothing of some of Robert Howard's "lemon-tinted" claptrap (which I hope he wrote with tongue in cheek).

For that matter, I've had a copy of TROS OF SAMOTHRACE from a library discard in storage for years...that sure could be a full-fledged FFB on its own...Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4705940625481143611.post-65421285410651029882010-10-15T07:41:00.196-07:002010-10-15T07:41:00.196-07:00I'm going to have to dig out THE MYSTERIOUS WU...I'm going to have to dig out THE MYSTERIOUS WU FANG in THE CASE OF THE SIX COFFINS and actually read it.
