Doctor Jason Wilder and I are mighty pleased to report that EQMM has accepted a second Skyler Hobbs adventure. "Skyler Hobbs and the Garden Gnome Bandit" will appear in a future issue, TBA.
Meanwhile, I've discovered that the February 2010 issue, shown here, containing "Skyler Hobbs and the Rabbit Man," is no longer available in electronic format. Some months back, it was offered by Fictionwise (I know, because I bought a copy). Now, that site offers only the seven most recent issues. Same for eReader.com. The eBook Store from Sony carries only the current issue, or offers yearly subscription. Amazon offers only subscriptions.
That seven-issue limit, I deduce, is because the magazine purchases electronic rights for only nine months from the issue's on-sale date.
But this brings up some interesting questions. What happens when eBooks or eMagazines go out of print? Are used book dealers then entitled to sell them, like any other old book or magazine? If not, why?
If not? Don't know, but used e-books will be a curious thing. if you think about it, e-books in some form canmake dissapear the used stuff bussiness.
ReplyDeleteOh, and congrats for your acceptance ;)
Many congrats on the acceptance, Evan - great news. Interesting question you pose regarding out of print e-books...
ReplyDeleteBest, Alan
YES!
ReplyDeleteSuper congrats, Evan. There is no stopping Skyler Hobbs. I'm happy (and bragging) to say I have the print February '10 issue.
Congrats on the second EQMM sale!
ReplyDeleteA nice coup indeed. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteThanks folks! Next step, finish the Skyler Hobbs novel.
ReplyDeleteexcellent news, congratulations on the acceptance. As for OP e-books and stories, that's a problem, isn't it? They may live on in various hard drives, but certainly won't have the legs for a long future of used book buyers, or at least that's my guess.
ReplyDeleteGreat news. The new Ed Hoch is born. Or maybe the new Basil Cooper. Either way, keep 'em coming.
ReplyDeleteor the new August Derlith?
ReplyDeleteOr the new Kilgore Trout.
ReplyDeleteNo, the new er... crap. All the guys i could say died from suicide of very very sick. better i stay silent.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new sale, that is great news indeed :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm waiting to buy that Skyler Hobbs novel.
ReplyDeleteThat is a conundrum. You could encourage EQMM (if they're game) to post your story...but no immediate direct financial benefit to you there...but it that's not a concern...
ReplyDeleteAnd, indeed, congratulations.
Late to the party, as usual... me, that is. Congrats on your second sale - doubtless it will appear in the Feb 2012 issue? There's probably a story in your idea of second-hand e-books...!
