In the early '50s, Marx introduced this elaborate playset that included a tin litho big top, plastic accessories, animals, performers, laborers and even attendees. I don't have the set, but somewhere along my collecting journey I acquired most of the figures and a few odds and ends. This is the first of several posts featuring these figures.

This blog is colourful but it does seem rather out-moded.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Jennifer. Do you have suggestions for in-moding?
ReplyDeleteLast year I saw one of these sets, the whole thing in original box in perfect condition, at Goodwill for $12.50, but passed it up. Oh well, probably not worth that much anyway, right?

ReplyDeleteNever ran across this swell circus. Of course, I haven't been looking too hard.
ReplyDeleteAs a '50s kid from Chicago, I definitely recall the Super Circus series, which went out live on the ABC network on Sunday afternoons.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the group shot, I was able to pick out the figures of ringmaster Claude Kirchner and bandleader/majorette Mary Hartline; given more time and a closer look, I'm sure I could find the three clowns, Cliffy (fat and jolly), Nicky (tramp), and Scampy (kid clown).
Obviously, I'm looking forward to the next installment of this ...
I have it.
