I remember seeing it on TV about a bazillion years ago. As noted previously, a Western remake of Gunga Din.
John Sturges was great at directing drama and action (Bad Day at Black Rock, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape) but comedy was not his strong suit. Conversely, Burt Kennedy was best at Western comedy (Support Your Local Sheriff, The Rounders, The Good Guys and the Bad Guys) but his straight Westerns were routine at best. Maybe Kennedy should have directed Sergeants 3 and The Hallelujah Trail, and Sturges should have directed The Deserter and Return of the Seven.
Looks like the video has been blocked on copyright grounds. Maybe Frank wanted to take it with him.
Not overlooked by me. I believe I saw it originally at a drive in. Gunga Din in the Old West.
ReplyDeleteDon't remember this one.
