Buddy Roosevelt was born Kenneth Sanderson. His first starring role was in a movie called "Rough Ridin'," so it seems likely that the Roosevelt name was a tribute to Teddy.
He starred in about three dozen silent Westerns in the 1920s. He continued to work in Westerns, as a stunt man, extra, and bit player, up until his retirement in the 1960s.
He also served in the Navy in WWI and in the Coast Guard in WWII.
Fred Thomson was a big star in silent movie Westerns, but died suddenly at the peak of his popularity.
Along with Tom Mix, Thomson was one of the first cowboy stars to make movies especially for kids. So he helped start a tradition that was later followed by Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry, and Rocky Lane.
Art Acord was a huge star in the silent era, but is almost forgotten now. Was buddy Roosevelt some sort of cousin to Teddy and FDR?

. . . which is a lot more than I know. I've always been partial to my dad's favorite hero, Hoot Gibson.
