MAVERICK and the "Relic of Fort Tejon" (1958)


This adventure from Four Color comics #930 comes you direct from 1958. Don't know who drew it. Do you?

    Artist of this is the very prolific Dan Spiegle or Spiegel. I've seen it spelled both ways and am not sure which is correct. I do know that Ingels is correct and Ingles is not for the master EC horror artist though.

    His Lone Ranger strip is spelled Spiegle, so that seems pretty safe. If you've seen "Ingles" on this blog, I blame it on damaged brain cells.

    IIUC, Spiegel drew all of the Maverick issues, both in the Four Color anthology series, and later when it became a regularly scheduled bi-monthly comic. He also drew a lot of Dell's other westerns that were licensed adaptations of TV shows.

    In the late 1960s, he drew Korak Son of Tarzan for Gold Key. And in the early 1980s, he drew Blackhawk for DC.
