Speaking as both a fan and as a journalist/pop culture historian who has written about Doc a number of times during the course of my career, I have to say that I'm really loving these Doc posts and thank you for sharing them. So when will we get the see the first story of the dreaded "Blue Hood" era?
Doc's goofy hood is a mystery to me. in his few appearances in Shadow Comics before getting his own mag -including the last (May 1940) - he was not wearing it. I haven't seen the inside of any of the Doc comics, but the hood's first cover appearance is issue 5 (Aug. 1941). After that he wears it on most, but not all, of the covers. He's wearing it upon his return to Shadow Comics (Jan. 1944) - posted here back on Feb. 8 - but in the next issue it's gone. I'd hoped it was gone for good, but discovered it pops up again in November 1946, looking as stupid as ever. That's as far as I've gotten in processing the pages for my blog, so I don't yet know how long it will bedevil us.
