The other studios, besides Republic, never really understood the Singing Cowboy Genre. In a way it was mostly cost cuting. A big studio would hire an orchestra and stage a musical number. At Republic Studios, it was cheaper to just have your lead strum a guitar leaning up against a fence or something. Five 3 minute songs would fill up about 15 minutes of screen. time.
Dick Foran was a strange singing cowboy, as he wasn't really singing country music or western swing, but operatic type stuff.
