  1. I collected some of the Sparkler Comics 50 years ago. Nice collection each month of various Universal Syndicate Features. Wish I had them now. Some of the stories are still in my head. One scene I recall had Tarzan, hands bound behind his back with an arrow between the shoulder blades, pursued across a grassy savannah by a band of hostile native warriors. I wonder if these have ever been reprinted?

  2. Don't know! The stories are reportedly reprints of Hogarth comic strips, so it seems likely they've been collected elsewhere.

  4. NBM Publishing did some hardback reprints of Hal Foster and Burne Hogarth Tarzan strips in the 1980s and/or 1990s, although I don't know which stories they reprinted.

I think Dark Horse may be planning a hardback or trade paperback reprinting Hogarth's adaptations of "Tarzan of the Apes" and "Jungle Tales of Tarzan."

Before the Comics Code and/or Political Correctness, they went for people and animals getting killed on covers a lot.

  5. Titan Books (TitanBooks.com) is publishing a four volume set of Hogarth strips. The first volume is due in May, the second in September. Dark Horse (DarkHorse.com) is publishing Hogarth’s TARZAN OF THE APES and JUNGLE TALES OF TARZAN under the title Tarzan: Burne Hogarth's Lord of the Jungle. That’s scheduled for June, 2014.
Thanks for posting the gorgeous set of Sparklers.
