HAMMETT HERALD-TRIBUNE: "The Farewell Murder" (1939)

"The Farewell Murder" first appeared in the February 1930 issue of Black Mask. It was, It may have been the last Continental Op story Hammett wrote. "Death and Company" appeared nine months later, but the prose is crude by comparison, and I suspect that story had been written and rejected much earlier. The illustrations here are by Austin Briggs, who did a couple of years on the Secret Agent X-9 strip beginning in 1938.
