Whatever Happened to No Toes McInnis? Cap Gun Monday: MAVERICK

I don't remember where I got this holster, but I know the name of the original owner. Makes me wonder whatever happened to him - and more to the point - what happened to his toes? If you happened to be acquainted with old No Toes, ask him to shoot me an email. I'm sure our readers would like to hear the tale. In any case, he is to be commended for keeping his toys in such good shape (except, of course, for searing his name into the holster belt with a wood burning tool).

The Maverick pistol shown here, made by Leslie-Henry, is basically the same gun as the Davy Crockett model shown HERE. I also have Gene Autry and Paladin versions, and there were several others.

Cap Gun Monday: Buzz Henry GENE AUTRY

It has come to my attention that a couple of you cowpokes actually missed this feature while it was on hiatus during our Continental Op extravaganza. Sorry to cause anyone discomfort. Rest assured there are many more weapons in the cap gun arsenal.

I don't know anything about the Buzz Henry (hence the BH brand) line of guns except that it was obviously related to the Leslie-Henry company. This little Gene pistol was designed for small hands, and is only 7 1/2" long. It's unusual in that the grip is part of the metal cast, with plastic pictorial inserts. The same gun was manufactured in Roy Rogers and Dale Evans models, and the plastic piece was sometimes red, blue or black. Shucks, I don't have any of those.

Cap Gun Monday: Leslie-Henry TEXAS RANGER

This week's less-than-lethal weapon is about 8 1/2 inches long, with a shiny nickel finish, and dates from around 1955. It doesn't say MADE IN U.S.A. anywhere, but you can bet your bippy it was. If James J. Griffin didn't have one of these, he sure as shootin' should have.

Cap Gun Monday: Leslie-Henry Davy Crockett holster & knife

Last week week we looked at the pistol from this set (HERE). Or at least what I assume is a set, because I acquired it all together at a collectible show, and all the pieces fit. There's no doubt the gun was made by the Leslie-Henry company, purveyors of many fine cap guns, and the knife is branded Auburn, manufacturer of oodles of cool rubber toys. My guess is the holster was made by a third outfit, who packaged them all together and peddled them to young frontiersmen.

Cap Gun Monday: Leslie-Henry DAVY CROCKETT (Jr.)

I posted Leslie-Henry's nine-inch Davy Crockett pistol a few months back, HERE. This is the smaller version, measuring about 7 1/2 inches. It's said to be slightly harder to come by. Wasn't so hard for me. I came by it at collectibles show at the Tacoma Dome twenty-some years ago. It was just sitting there in a Davy Crockett holster with a Davy Crockett knife in a Davy Crockett sheath, saying, "Buy me!" So I did. Next week we'll look at the rest of the set.

Cap Gun Monday: Leslie-Henry GENE AUTRY .44

With most of the guns I've featured here, I thought my photos portrayed them pretty well. Not so this time. Somehow the pics just don't do this one justice. Maybe it's the effect of the cold winter sunlight, or the distracting shadows, or maybe I'm just off my game. In any case, this is one is 11 inches long, solid, heavy and a joy to behold. It's one of my favorites. Don't be surprised if I give it another photo shoot someday.

This one takes ordinary roll caps, and the cylinder turns as each shot is fired.
