I bought my copy of this issue in 1954 off the rack at Wally's Soda Bar in my hometown of Northampton, Massachusetts. I was horrified at this sacrilegious treatment of one of my favorite comic book characters. But it was very, very funny, so I hated it and loved it at the same time! I had the same feelings about MAD's satire about G.I. Joe another favorite comic book character. Kurtzman didn't have to go far with the silliness with G.I. Joe as it was pretty silly to begin with.
