Did the theaters own those posters or the film co. or the distributor?

I'm pretty sure they were owned by the distributor, Oscar. The only kind the theaters owned were the window cards. They're the ones that had a blank space at the top where they could write the theater name and play dates, and ask local merchants to display them in store windows.
