My favorite BLACK MASK cover.

September 1940 - by Rafael DeSoto

Okay, maybe I'm sadistic, but this one just speaks to me. And this ish features a great story, too. The three-part serial "Dog Eat Dog" was later published as the second Cellini Smith novel, No Love Lost

Robert Reeves unfortunately died one month before the end of WW II, in July 1945. He evidently was killed in action but no one really knows the details of his death.

He was an excellent hardboiled detective writer with a sense of humor. His total output was 3 novels, 9 stories in BLACK MASK and 2 in DIME DETECTIVE.

Thanks Walker! My favorite is his first novel, Dead and Done For.

Speaking of Black Mask, if you are into audiobooks, HighBridge Audio has done several volumes of Black Mask audiobooks. I just listened to the second vol this past week. Pretty good stuff. I might not agree with all of their story/author choices but they are well-read. I've found a few of the vols at the public library.

I've been listening to those Black Mask stories too. The readings are great. My library has four volumes so far, but there will eventually be ten to complete THE BLACK LIZARD BIG BOOK OF BLACK MASK STORIES.
