Was this magazine published by the same company (or maybe owned by the same parent company) that published Marvel Comics (Captain America, Human Torch, Sub-Mariner)? The logo/masthead looks similar.

Yes, these were published by Timely, who first published pulp magazines in the 1930's and was the same company that put out Captain American, Namor and the Human Torch. Actually there were a number of different company names but they were all owned by Martin Goodman. The comics came out in the 1940's under the name Timely. In the 1950's the name was changed to Atlas. After losing their distributor and picked up by DC's distribution company National, there was no real logo on the comics for a while. Only after the Fantastic Four proved to be hit did Stan start using the name Marvel Comics Group. It was Steve Ditko who came up with the familiar corner logo with a picture. Check out the book "The Secret History of Marvel Comics" from Fantagraphics for the full story. Make Mine Marvel!
