This sequence, beginning March 12, 1939, marks the arrival of Charles Flanders to the Sunday strip. Prior to this, Flanders had been working as Alex Raymond's replacement on Secret Agent X-9. His work on X-9 was perfectly adequate, but unexciting, as it involved a lot of sitting and standing around. The Ranger required plenty of action, and Flanders quickly developed a flair for it. He drew the strip for more than thirty years.
Next Saturday: Lone no more?
