Speaking as a lifelong fan of the character, and something of a Doc Savage historian (whose efforts include a couple of special contributions that were published in the 2013 Meteor House deluxe hardback edition of Phil Farmer's "Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life"), I just wanted to pass along how thrilled I've been to see these original Doc comic book stories appearing here. I ran across one of them quite by accident a while back while doing research for my weekly newspaper column, and I've been a loyal follower of your Doc posts ever since. One of those aforementioned contributions to the Farmer reissue had to do with Doc's comic book adventures, but this set of postings here marks the first time I've gotten the opportunity to actually read more than a few of them. So much thanks!
One question, though: At what point will we be seeing the origin of the dreaded "Blue Hood?" I'm one of those who believes that sequence of stories to have been one of the most bizarre in the Savage saga, but while I've read several of those stories I've never read that very first one. I'd kind of like to, if for no other reason than to be able to speak with a little more authority on the subject the next time I write about the subject or it comes up in conversation...
In any event, thanks again from an aging Doc fan who discovered the character as a 12-year-old back in 1977.
Thanks John! Good to know someone else appreciates these. There are many more to come. I believe the Golden Age Doc comics were reprinted by some outfit in black and white, and may still be obtainable, but too expensive for me - especially in black and white. I hold out hopes someone will take pity on us all and post scans of the originals somewhere on the web.
I have a couple of old editons of His Apocalyptic Life, but was not aware of a newer one. Now I'm intrigued. I, too, discovered Doc at 12, and what I call Dent's smart-aleck writing style changed my life.
