The Agony and the Ecstasy of DAVY CROCKETT by Irving Stone (1955)

Back in 1955, the Crockett gravy train was going so strong that even novelist Irving Stone jumped on board. This was five years before The Agony and the Ecstasy, but among his already published books were historical treatments of Andy Jackson and his wife Rebecca, and Abe and Mary Todd Lincoln. This piece appeared in the newspaper supplement The American Weekly in three installments, beginning June 5, 1955, and was advertised as "Davy Crockett for adults." (I posted this in its original format a few days ago, but the tiny type pained my eyes, so I'm presenting an easy reading version here.)
