Buck Jones was one cowboy star who really tried to live up to his image and set a good example. BTW, in the movie "A Christmas Story," Ralphie wants a Red Ryder BB gun "with a compass in the stock and a thing which tells time." Maybe Jean Shepherd's memory was playing tricks on him. afaik, the Red Ryder air rifle was never marketed with a compass or sundial in the stock, but the Buck Jones version was.
