The story hasn't ended. I read Capp during the sixties and seventies. He became gentler in regard to mocking a person's personal appearance. Capp fell out of favor in the sixties because of his conservative views. He supported the war in Vietnam. I believe it was in the early seventies when a female reporter for a college newspaper accused Capp of trying to grope her. The matter went to court where Capp pleaded guilty. According to press accounts, he never lifted his head throughout the proceedings. After that incident, Capp became a recluse. Al Capp was never the same and neither was his comic strip.
