This if for loyal Almanacker Cap'n Bob Napier, who just happens to be Executive Vice President (and Sgt. at Arms) of the International Anna May Wong Fan Club. Hope it warms his cockles.
Thanks a million, Mighty One. I do indeed love Anna May, supreme lotus blossom, and there were many pictures in there I hadn't seen before. Why not make this a regular feature?
I started watching silent films and broke out my Grandpappy's collection of novels and comics a few years ago. It's some of the best 'Brain Bleach' imaginable for anyone who's sick of our 'progressive' culture.
As one who's not at all sick of our sometimes progressive and sometimes retrogressive culture, I am also an Anna May Wong fan of long standing, at least since seeing the initial film of THE THIEF OF BAGHDAD, because who is more Iraqi than Wong and Fairbanks?
I did have the honor and duty, back when I was working at TV GUIDE, of instructing one the producers of the documentary YOU DON'T KNOW JACK, about Jack Soo and his career, that they were mistaken in their press-packet assertion that Soo's mid-'60s sitcom was the first US national tv series to star an Asian-American...a decade and a half after the Dumont series THE GALLERY OF MADAME LIU-TSONG, starring a certain Ms. Wong.

Never fear. Anna May will return.

"Orientally Yours" is the best autograph I can think of.
