One of the joys of perusing the Jim Rogers Collection of early Ellery Queen's (as now archived by Larry Paschelke) is finding little nuggets of interest like this. This one appeared in the issue for January 1944.

DAVY CROCKETT and the Shawnee War Plan - A 64-PAGE STORY! (1957)
Forgive me if I get some of this wrong: I've never actually seen an issue of this publication, and only recently became aware of its existence. Near as I can discover, it began in Australia, and was later reprinted in England. First known as Cowboy Comics and later Cowboy Picture Library, it appears to have been printed in digest size, of about 5 1/4 by 7 inches. Of the 268 issues published between roughly 1957 and 1962 (they were apparently undated), most were devoted to Buck Jones, Kit Carson and Davy Crockett, with various other heroes thrown in. The artwork, I think you'll agree, is equal to or better than most of that in U.S. western comics of the time.
Davy suggests you "Go Ahead!" and read it.
