SHELDON MOLOFF and "The Menace of the Railroad" (1948)

Sheldon Moldoff, between his stints on Hawkman and Batman, was a major contributor during the early years at E.C. This one appeared in War Against Crime #4, rom 1948.

GRAHAM INGELS (??) and "The Rise and Fall of Blackie Archer" (1949)

Every source I've found on the 'net credits Graham Ingels for pencils and inks on this story, but I find that pretty hard to swallow. Yeah, that's him on page 1 panel 2, page 2 panel 1, and all of page 4, but the rrest of it looks more like Harry Harrison with both of his eyes closed. I haven't seen the finished product to compare it, so maybe it came out okay in the end. Maybe it was a rush job, and this silverprint (the printer's color guide) had to be prepared while most pages were still in the rough pencil stage. Maybe. If anyone has a copy of War Against Crime #8 or one of the reprints, I'd be mighty curious to see a photo of page 5, 6 or 7 to see what the finished product looked like. delewis1@hotmail.com!

JOHNNY CRAIG introduces CAPTAIN CRIME, "The Field Marshal of Murder" (1948)

A war story in a crime comic? OK. From Crime Patrol #7, 1948. Can't swear to it, but I suspect this first appearance of the Captain was also his last.

Our silverprint this time comes from Howard Larsen, who did only a couple of Pre-Trend and a couple of New Trend tales for E.C. It's from Crime Patrol #12, dated June-July 1949.

Here's Al Feldstein inking he pencils of a guy named Jon Alton, which is way less cool than pure Feldstein, but way cooler than no Feldstein at all. A silverprint prepared for Crime Patrol #15, dated Dec-Jan 1949-50.
