DAFFY DILL Rocks! "A Dirge for Pagliaccio" by Richard Sale
This classic Daffy Dill adventure comes to us from the July 29, 1939 ish of Detective Fiction Weekly. Try it. You'll like it. And here's great news: Steeger Books has begun the reprinting of Daffy's entire series. Volume 1, featuring the first seven stories, is pictured down below!

All Hail Daffy Dill. These first five covers feature Daffy the way I picture him, with curly red-blond hair and looking a little like Richard Sale himself (gotta wonder if that was deliberate). I'm sure there were many more bearing this image, but sadly, I just don't happen to own 'em.
The issue above presented the first (I think) of at least two team-ups with Sale's DFW photog hero, Candid Jones. (Read the first Candid Jones story, "The Long Shot," HERE.)

Forgotten Stories: DAFFY DILL in "The Dancing Corpse" by Richard Sale (READ IT HERE!)
To kick off our nine day extravaganza celebrating slick-tongued reporter Daffy Dill, here's a never-reprinted adventure from the September 7, 1935 issue of Detective Fiction Weekly. Over the next week I'll be re-posting three other Daffy stories (yeah, they're worth reading again), looking at Daffy cover and interior art, and revealing how Daffy dang near made it into the movies.
Then, next Friday, we'll be treated to an in-depth look at the life and times of Daffy Dill by Monte Herridge - an article that originally appeared in the 2013 Pulpfest magazine PEAPSTER. And to wrap things up, on Saturday the 29th we'll have still another "new" Daffy story, coming your way for the first time since 1937.
Yea, verily, it's a good time to be a Daffy Dill fan. Let the merriment commence . . .
